Bad Credit is not to be taken lightly

Debt is a growing problem; it seems that with each passing year the American consumer savings rate drops, recently the savings rate for the average American dropped into the negatives!  Meaning that the average citizen spends more money then they actually make.  The average American household is 9,000 dollars in debt, and 40% of American households are in at least 25,000 dollars in debt, those are staggering numbers!

Having a bad credit score not only affects one’s ability to obtain credit, it is much broader reaching.

Since banks have to take on a much bigger risk when lending to consumers with bad credit, they have to charge a higher interest rate on the loan to balance the risk vs. reward equation.  8 percent may not seem like a big jump compared to 6 percent, but that measly two percent can mean tens of thousands of dollars of extra interest for a $200,000 dollar mortgage loan over 30 years.  The same goes for car loans, except the interest rate on a car loan can become much higher if you have bad credit.

If having to pay thousands of dollars extra to obtain credit was not bad enough, employers are starting to look into credit scores when hiring.  There must be a connection between high credit scores and a dependable worker.  It is hard enough to get a job in this market to begin with!

Do not weight yourself down anymore with a bad credit score.  The best way to avoid a bad credit score is to stay out of debt to begin with, or to get out of debt as quickly as possible if you are in debt trouble.
